Christian Citizenship

Series:
Passage: Phillipians 3:17-4:1
Service Type:

As a child arguing with parents about a rule of the house, many of us probably heard the clear proclamation: “As long as you live under my roof, you’ll do what I say.”  Hard to argue with that kind of authority.  Then when we travel away from home, exploring new foods and experiencing new things, we may use the phrase “when in Rome, do as the Romans do.”  Paul, in a way, is saying the former rather than the later.  God the Creator of the heavens and the earth, who has claimed us through faith in and the faithfulness of Christ Jesus, calls us not to simply do as the Romans do, abiding by the law of the land simply because it is the law of the land.  Instead we are called to be obedient to the house rules knowing that we live under the roof of God’s authority, even now.  If God’s regime is already established, and it is in this city that we find our true identity, it matters not where else we go, we are always under God’s roof.
